Question Four

Who would be the audience for you product?

The audience for my product is male aged between 16-25 with demographics of class C2 and above. A typical audience member would be a skilled worker such as a plumber or electrician who may have a small family. They would watch mainly thrillers with crime, action and horrors all as sub-genres. The taste in clothes and shopping would be similar throughout the people. Those people would be best suited to late night TV to relax after a hard days work, the programs that they would watch would be average late night TV such as ‘X Factor’ and ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’.

I researched my audience by firstly looking online to see what type of audience would watch a thriller, by doing this I found out there were a lot of young to middle age men that liked it so I decided that this age would be best as it would get the most attention. The next step I took was looking at the demographics and psychographics of the potential audience members. The demographics were C2, which are skilled workers, and they have a large amount of working hour with a usual working day of nine till five. Altogether I targeted all of my research at this group, as they are the most likely to watch my thriller. The findings that we found for the audience was all that we needed to put in and what we had started to plan for our thriller opening. The audience’s expectations were that they wanted the regular conventions of a thriller, those consisted of things such as music, which fits the genre and sets the mood and good use of camera shots to build tension. The BBFC age rating that I will have on my thriller would be 15 so that it appeals to the audience and has a large audience. I also choose an age rating of 15 because if a sixteen year old was wanting to watch it and realized that it is a 12 then they may think that it is too childish for them. The content in the film show weapons such as guns and knifes which are not suitable for 12 years olds to watch and see. There are some scenes of violence and dead body’s also shown in the thriller opening, this means that the age rating needs to be 15 or higher. This age rating will affect my target audience by not being able to sell the film too fewer than fifteens potentially making the audience smaller. A 15 rating which will affect my film is violence, there can be strong violence in it but it can inflict pain or injury for long periods of time. This is on the BBFC website for regulations for 15s Altogether the age rating will effect my audience because the will be certain restrictions on what they can see and who can see it. The age rating will affect me, as I will not be able to show graphic images, which show pain and injury for long periods of time. The vox pop that we di showed us that the audience is there for a thriller in which the age rating is 16. They liked action scene in which we try to include in our thriller opening.

An audience profile of a typical audience member:

A typical audience member is a man who watch’s up to 3hours of TV a day, which are mainly sports this person would be aged around 16-34. They like most action films such as Fast and Furious and James Bond. They would work a normal day to day routine from 9 until 5 and will have the weekend to relax.
